HELLO THERE. WE HEARD U NEED THIS.
DON’T WORRY, WE LOVE YOU.
EVERY PART OF YOU BELONGS TO YOU.

I listen to a weekly podcast called 7 Day Sunday, hosted by Chris Addison of The Thick of It. I started listening because of him, but I kept listening because it's hilarious. I look forward to it every week. It's a satire of the news, and of course being on BBC radio it has a focus on UK events, so not only is it funny, but I learn a little something about what's going on across the pond without having to like, make the effort to educate myself.

They do sometimes discuss international news too, which is why I'm posting, because I wanted to share the following sentence from today's episode:

"You think that if Obama put his pants [underwear] on outside his trousers, people would think he was at least moving toward the things he promised us?"

No further context for you. You'll have to go download it and listen for yourself.
remindmeofthe: (Please could you)
OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS. You know that fic I've been blathering on about wanting, the one where there's a crossover between The Thick of It and Torchwood: Children of Earth where Malcolm Tucker replaces John Frobisher and sorts out the 456 in no time flat?

Well. I just found out that somebody wrote it. Somebody wrote it AND they are cleverer than me and didn't even have to sacrifice Frobisher to do it. ♥ ♥ ♥

"Jamie, be nice to the twats, they don't know any better," said the other man in the door. Also Scottish, Jack observed, but leaner, grey hair neatly cut, and he sounded a little like - actually a lot like - Jack gaped. It was impossible. It was a joke, certainly.

"What are you trying to pull?" he snarled at the phone.

"Nothing of yours, I know the places you stick it," the other Scot at the door went on.

[livejournal.com profile] degroove is a genius, with perfect characterization for Malcolm and Torchwood having no idea what hit them. Go read "Spinners of Earth" (spoilers for CoE, obvs, though no real spoilers for TToI) and share in my glee.

So I got my friend [livejournal.com profile] americanleaguer hooked on crack Torchwood because I'm evil I like to share, and she's tried her hand at fic with this coda to "Reset" from Jack's perspective. She's a good writer and it's a good fic. Go check it out.

So I've spent much of my winter break watching TV shows and reading fanfic. One of the major offenders has been Supernatural, and it is ridiculous not only how much fanfic there is, but how much of it is good. This fandom may be utterly fucking bugshit crazy, but it has the highest ratio of quality to crap in any large fandom I've ever seen. As a result, I've amassed so many Supernatural fics in my LJ memories that they comprise over half of the total entries in the "fic" section. Winter break is now winding down, so I thought I'd celebrate by passing along my finds. I'm sure some of them will be familiar to those of you who have been in the fandom for a while, but hopefully there's some new stuff in there, too. This doesn't come even close to representing everything I enjoyed, but it's a good sampling.

Uh, and one other thing: it's not all slash. Yeah, I know! Nobody's more surprised, believe me. So I've pulled it all together in categories, because not everything here is everyone's cup of tea, and I've added little snips from each fic. Which I tried to keep work safe when it was relevant, and believe me that was not always easy.

Genfic first, because I think I've still got at least one non-slasher on my flist. )

Wincest. Because that's really all the show has to give to us slashers. )

RPS. Because Jeffrey Dean Morgan does not have to be in character to be hot. )

And even a lone het PWP. WHAT IS THIS FANDOM DOING TO ME )

The end. Oh, man. I've never actually looked that closely at my memoried fic before. I think I have issues.
