The first question on today's voting ballot.

"Do you want to reject the new law that would protect people from discrimination in employment, housing, education, public accommodations and credit based on their sexual orientation?"

In other words, we're tryin' ta keep them queers down. What do they think they are, human or US citizens with valid rights or something?

Don't you love that this is an actual issue being actually voted on in fucking 2005? Don't you wanna come live here? I mean, what are we, Texas? This is so embarrassing. THIS IS MAINE. WE ARE A BLUE STATE. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE. Except the queers.

Being bisexual, I of course have a certain stake in seeing the new law upheld, but even if I were straight as an arrow I'd be appalled. Embarrassing.

Whooooa.

The only link I have is this which is to a registration-required message board, but apparently Ugueth Urbina has been charged with attempted murder for this incident on October 15. The message board link is from a board member who heard the report on the radio. The closest I can find to a news link is this article from October 27 about how it was expected that charges would be filed shortly.

Best. Trade. EVAR. Who wouldn't prefer the potato-headed, incredibly talented second baseman to the reliever/closer who spends his offseason trying to kill his workers? Shit, we coulda traded him for actual potatoes and still gotten the better end of the deal.

Edited because [livejournal.com profile] all_ahoo kindly provided a Sports Illustrated article about the charges which escaped my Googling. Thanks!

Ladies and gentlemen, your "number one homo song." *collapses laughing*

WCYY just played this hilarious call from a listener objecting to the "flaming homo" content of "Do you Wanna" by Franz Ferdinand. Psycho conservatives with obvious repression issues are great entertainment. =D My favorite part was when he indirectly threatened to stop "promoting" WCYY. What, you mean you're gonna stop telling your friend to listen to it? Ooh, he also introduced himself as a "very important" member of the community, and then refused to identify himself. Just an awesome phone call.

I mean, "number one homo song?" I'd love to hear this guy's reaction to "Michael."

YES WE WIN.

Maine has voted to keep the law preventing discrimination based on sexual orientation. I am so proud I could cry. My state is finally taking a tentative step out of the Dark Ages. GO MAINE YOU CAN DO IT PUT ON YOUR SUNGLASSES AND GET OUT OF THAT CAVE.
