Jun. 17th, 2005 09:17 pmEvery time, every time, every single friggin' time the Tigers have gotten to within a game of .500, they lose. Every time. It's like a law of the universe now. They just can't seem to break through. They get close, they're looking good, they're making up ground, they maybe might have some momentum and heeeeere they come up to the .500 mark - and then they lose. And then they lose a couple more. And then they have to start making up ground all over again. They'll get there, I'm confident they will, but watching them struggle against some kind of weird tide is frustrating sometimes.
Oh, and if they could not repeat the thing where they are down 4-0 in the ninth, load the bases with no outs, and then do nothing with it, that would be swell. I did not like that. Thanks, guys.

Jun. 17th, 2005 10:02 pmYAY Red Sox!
Such awesomeness in the game tonight. Three-run homer from Mark "I do stuff other than strike out, you know" Bellhorn. Great block at the plate to force an out from Tek, and an out that helped win the game at that. Beautiful ninth inning from Foulkie, who appears to be getting his shit together recently. An ACTUAL BUNT from a RED SOX PLAYER who is NOT RENTERÍA (specifically, Tek). Nice long at-bat from Millah that ended in a ground-rule double. Johnny sending home the winning run (yes, Tek).
Final score: 6-5. How many games have the Sox won that were tied in the ninth? They just refuse to go into extra innings.
The Astros are currently plowing their merry way through the Royals, 7-0 in the seventh. Not that I really expected them to lose tonight - hi, Clemens versus the Royals, and as much as the Astros seem to hate helping Clemens out, even they couldn't manage to lose this one. Still, seven runs so far is awesome. I like when they do things like that.
