remindmeofthe: (long day)
So there's a new Pope. While my own personal reaction to this is pretty much limited to, "Dude, the new Pope's name is RATZINGER," this is because I am not Catholic and have never been too religious. If you forced me to choose a religion in a questionaire, I'd put Wicca, but I don't practice and never really have. I don't really have any basis for comparison - I remember very clearly how I felt when Kerry conceded last year, but that doesn't seem to me as though it can even begin to compare to this - and I don't truly understand the personal or practical ramifications of it.

I've been catching up on my friends list, though, and seen some very strong, deeply hurt and angry reactions from some of my Catholic friends. From this I gather that this guy is bad news, and the fact that his appointment has put people in direct conflict with the faith they were raised in - to the point that some are ready to walk away - surprised me a little, and then made me sad. Because this much I do understand now: This is hurting a lot of people.

I am so sorry, you guys. I'm sorry your religion has betrayed you, and I'm sorry some of you feel the need to do this, and I'm sorry it's hurting you so much. I love you all, and I hope you can find some peace and some closure. Also, according to every reasonable doctrine in every religion ever: God loves you no matter what.

The bad news: Red Sox lost after being ahead most of the game.

(Dear Embree,

QUIT IT.

Annoyed,
Cathryn)

The Tigers lost, too, but they didn't do it by one run, nor did they get completely flattened. 4-8 is acceptable.

The good news: Meredith and Gretchen survive another leg on TAR. Joyce and Uchenna come in first because Joyce is amazing and was willing to get her head shaved so they could take the Fast Forward, and Uchenna is amazing because he told her forty times how beautiful she looked and I love them so much. And Lynn and Alex got Philiminated. HA.

The best news of all: The Yankees lost. TO THE DEVIL RAYS. WITH RANDY JOHNSON PITCHING. HAHAHAHAHA.

Seriously. Just this morning, I was thinking how it would be nice if the Yankees could lose some more real soon, but not expecting it in this series. Because the Yankees not pounding the Devil Rays into tiny dust is a sign of the impending Apocalypse. What is with the Yankees? I know it's way too early in the season to start making big judgments - hell, that's all I've been saying since the season started - but this is just weird.

Interesting, though probably meaningless - bit of trivia: The Yankees won last night's game with a final score of 19-8. The final score of Game Three of the ALCS was also 19-8. And we all know what happened after that.

I wouldn't be surprised to open the paper tomorrow morning and find that George Steinbrenner died of a heart attack. Or a stroke.

Anyway. The point I was trying to make was: Overall, I think the day is a plus. I'll take it. =D

And the Astros did NOT lose by one run this time. In fact, they won by two! 5-3. (Sorry about your Braves, [livejournal.com profile] hoedogg.)

Yep, this day definitely tips into the plus column. But tomorrow is going to suck if I don't go to bed now. I'm going to be permanently sleep deprived all season, aren't I?
