Spent the last few days up in Portland at Rikki's; ostensibly I was there so we could get a start on clearning out the room I'll be staying in, but somehow we ended up watching lots of TV and playing The Sims instead.

On Thursday, I ventured out after Rikki had gone to work so that I could a) buy an advance ticket to Still, We Believe: The Boston Red Sox Movie, which opened in Maine yesterday, and b) rent a couple of movies at Videoport. Because I should totally be spending what little cash I still have on movies. But fuck it, why not? What else am I gonna spend it on? I don't have enough left to save without it being totally pointless, so I may as well spend it in tiny bits and pieces. Anyway. I made the mistake of walking into Videoport without a clear idea of what I wanted, which always leads to me wandering helplessly around a video store for like and hour, staring at titles with increasing desperation and fuzzy vision. Plus, the movies I could think of that I wanted to see were already on my Netflix queue. Sigh. But I finally walked out of there with an episode of MST3K (The baffling Sidehackers), and the first volume of Invader ZIM, which I had no idea was on DVD, and was pleased to find because I've always intended to watch it and never quite managed more than an episode here or there. I had time to watch all nine episodes in the volume, and now see why it's so popular and must buy it and wait anxiously for the rest to be released.

When I got back to the house, I got into Rikki's vodka. The problem was assuming that I would still have the judgment required to know when to stop. I assumed wrongly, and didn't stop until I ran out of orange juice (fortunately, I'd only bought a quart), and have now promised to replace it when I have money again. This is not a big deal, as she only drinks socially, but still. Oooops. I also learned that following MST3K when you're mildly drunk (just enough to be really happy, but not enough to stagger to the bathroom every ten minutes) is impossible, but watching baseball is really, really fun. Especially when the pitcher from the opposing team is THE WORST PITCHER YOU'VE EVER SEEN. Seriously. This guy was awful. By the time he was done - and why he got left in for half the game is anyone's guess - about forty percent of his pitches had been balls, as opposed to strikes, which is the kind of thing you might expect from a Little League pitcher. Amazingly, in spite of getting a squillion walks, the Red Sox STILL lost, because they're still working on that whole "hitting the ball" thing.

It was on that bright and shiny note that I got off the bus the next day, wearing my Varitek shirt and Bosox cap, to go see the movie. Said wardrobe choice attracted a reporter from channel eight doing a piece on the movie opening in Maine, so I got on the news, showing off my prebought ticket and lying that I had Kleenex for the end of the movie (the movie is about last season and post-season, so it has a rather devastating ending). Heh.

(This is not the first time I've been on the news for fandom dorkitude - a news crew showed up to do a little feature when myself and some friends had joined a group camping out for Episode II tickets. I was just in the background for that, and the very idea of me being on TV because of ardent Star Wars love is too funny because I hadn't even seen the original trilogy at that point. I was only there because it sounded like a good time. Oh, well, at least I'd seen Episode I.)

The movie itself was entertaining, and watching the rehash of that fatal loss was even more depressing then when it actually happened last fall (possibly because at the time I was in shock). So I left the theatre depressed, and I got on the bus depressed, and then I cheered up a bit when I got to call everyone and tell them to watch channel eight at six, and then I cheered up a LOT when the Sox rallied to smash Toronto 11-5. HA.

Must make plans with [livejournal.com profile] manderspander for next month's Red Sox/Yankees games v. soon. We plan to get together for a couple of games, drink lots, and make fun of Jeter and A-Rod some more.

Applied at Domino's this afternoon. They seemed delighted that someone actually wanted to fill out an application. Yay. =)

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to Amazon and look up the price for those Invader ZIM DVDs.
