So I have been giving the Eleventh Doctor - uh, maybe a little too much thought. I get bored. Anyway, I think I have settled on my top three picks. For the moment, at least. It's subject to change whenever I think of someone really cool.

3. Jack Davenport. I love Jack Davenport. In anything. He can do both drama and comedy, and of course he and Steven Moffat have a prior working relationship, so Moffat would know how to play to his strengths. He is also relatively young, handsome, and popular, which are probably the main criteria the BBC will be using. He is third on this list because, while it would be a sweet bit of casting and I would love to be watching him in a new episode of something every week again (I loved Coupling), it seems to me that he is a bit too well-known to play the Doctor. Fame is completely subjective, of course, but I feel that once you have played a pivotal role in an international smash hit movie trilogy, you have breached the level of fame acceptable for playing the Doctor. It wouldn't be the Doctor, it would be Jack Davenport as the Doctor, and that would just take away from who the Doctor is.

2. John Simm. I obsessed over the idea during the week between "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End" (and you can't tell me it wouldn't have been twenty BILLION times better than the bullshit RTD stuck us with), and I'm right back on it now. John Simm is awesome, and it would be really interesting to watch his interpretation of the Doctor versus how he played the Master. Plus, the very idea of Simm!Eleven trying to explain who he is to Jack and Martha gives me gigglefits. For what it's worth (ie, very little), rumor has it that this is actually a possibility.

1. Bill Nighy. After the emo of Ten, it would be absolutely lovely to see a Doctor who appears to be composed entirely of dryness and sarcasm, except for when he's not. (I am, admittedly, basing my impression of Nighy on Shaun of the Dead and Love Actually, but he was just so GOOD in those roles. I mean, yeah, PotC, but he was covered in, like, eight pounds of makeup and CGI. I actually forgot he was in those movies.) I wouldn't have thought it possible to come up with a casting idea that I would like more than John Simm, but oh man, I want Nighy!Eleven like burning. Unfortunately, Bill Nighy is not young and hot, so this is unlikely.

What do you guys think? Do you have a list?
