Extremely random moment:

I just watched the first episode of The Secret World of Alex Mack. I freaking loved that show back in the day. It was one of my favorites.

And, you know, I don't expect a show I loved ten years ago to be every bit as good now. It just doesn't happen. I'm fine with that. There tends to be a haze of nostalgia that obscures the flaws, anyway.

But WHY, for the love of god WHY, does sensible, off-the-charts genius Annie not immediately send her sister to the shower after hearing her story of being drenched in a mystery chemical and seeing it still on Alex for herself? She lets Alex sit around for HOURS and marinate in this chemical that she knows absolutely nothing about. Sure, it's a Nickelodeon show, so Alex is perfectly safe, but Annie doesn't know that. For all she knows, that chemical could be slowly poisoning Alex to death, or maybe cancer will show up twenty years down the road.

I know it's a futile effort to question these things in a show aimed at kids (and they were right about getting away with it, too, I sure as hell didn't notice), but that display of careless idiocy from smart and methodical Annie just blew my mind. Does she shrug and keep going when she spills on herself during chemistry class, too?

/extremely random moment. I just had to get that off my chest. I feel better now.
