Jan. 17th, 2006 12:04 amAUGH WISDOM TEETH. I got mine out today, and my grandparents firmly insisted that I spend at least the night at their house. Since they paid for the procedure, since I've never been put out before and didn't know how long it would take to recuperate and didn't want to be left alone, and since they have a washer and dryer, I agreed. They also have a computer with Internet (well, AOL, but it works anyway), so here I am.
I am still Novocained to the gills (at midnight, guys, from a two-thirty procedure, and wouldn't Remy and Orsillo love that time slot?), which makes it hard to eat but is also delaying the arrival of pain, so I guess that's all right. Quick weird story: The last thing I remember after the IV insertion was them fitting an oxygen mask over my nose. Two seconds later, I was somewhere else, and I thought I'd been moved again for the procedure to start. Then my mom walked in and I realized it was over. Everyone told me it would feel like no time at all, but damn. I thought the IV would take over by degrees, not knock me out flat. I was quite surprised - I asked Mom, "Wait, it's done?" to be absolutely sure.
In regards to the roommate situation: I have found a new place. Right upstairs. Apparently, Psycho Bitch is (surprise) CRAZY and has a history of causing trouble with the upstairs woman, Donna. Donna needs a roommate to help with rent (but NOT utilities, SCORE) and I think is also pleased to rescue someone from Psycho Bitch. She's wanted to do it before. Donna has a cat, which is yay, since I grew up with cats and have missed having one around, and also a gas stove. I hate cooking on electric ranges, so I am psyched. I'm set to move in at the end of the month.
In regards to the college situation: I am, in fact, too late to start this semester (I never took my SATs, so I need to wait for the February round of placement tests for English and math), but I am tentatively set to start in the fall. Frankly, this is okay, since now I have a lot more time to get done the things I'll need to do.
In regards to the computer situation: I still haven't gotten my W-2 form, so I still have no money, but as soon as I get it, I'm trucking down to H&R Block, getting my money, and going to Circuit City. I can't afford to maintain a Mac right now, obviously, so I'll be getting a PC. However, my mother has offered to let me use their emergency credit card and let me pay her back, so if I don't get the form this week, I'm going to take her up on that offer on Sunday.
In regards to OMG I have a birthday this month: I turn twenty-three on the twenty-third. Golden birthday! Hope I am sufficiently recovered to have a bit of fun.
In regards to things that are keeping me sane and preventing free time from getting too heavy:
beckla30 ♥, Jim Bouton and Ball Four, Bill Simmons (I actually splurged on a hardcover! With mall gift certificates, but still! The only books I ever buy hardcover are Harry Potter; everything else can wait a year), Field of Dreams (saw it for the first time, bought it two days later), Holly Robinson Peete's Get Your Own Damn Beer, I'm Watching the Game (terrific guide for women trying to pick up football without knowing the first damn thing about it; very clear and easy to understand, not at all dry and technical, and I feel a lot more solid on my basic knowledge than I did before); and some weird fucking playoff football. It is my amateur opinion that at least half the teams going on to next weekend are doing so not because they played well, but because their opponents sucked (hi, Broncos! What's up, Steelers?) So this is going to be a special, special Super Bowl.
In regards to replying: Please to be using the short reply post again, as I don't know if I'll be getting online again before I leave, and the e-mail alert for replies to this post would be about eight squillion little screens of text on my cell phone. Thanks! Hope to see you guys again soon!
