AAAAEHGHGHRGHRHRHRHGH.

[livejournal.com profile] ayrdaomei passed along this story about how the MLB may not allow the Astros to close Minute Maid Park.

This makes me so angry I can barely use words. Closing the roof is a huge part of the home field advantage for the Astros. It magnifies the sound of the crowd and makes them part of the action.

This absolutely reeks of bullshit to me. During the NLDS and NLCS it's perfectly okay to have the dome closed, but now all of a sudden it is a Bad Thing? In what universe does that make any damn sense?

I'll tell you. Very possibly in the same universe where the postseason umpires in White Sox games have "blown" an awful lot of calls in the Sox's favor. The coincidences, they are piling up. I am starting to seriously wonder how many postseason games the White Sox have won and how many of those games the MLB won for them.

I'm not really a conspiracy theorist - I like to joke around and make shit up, but I never seriously believe it - but sometimes things are as obvious as a poke in the eye.

Biggio's wife slapped by fan in Chicago.

Daaaamn. I would have expected something like that in Yankee Stadium or Fenway during a Yankees/Red Sox series, not in Chicago. That's just fucking lame. I'd hate on Chicago for it, but really, every team has a few fans like that.

It was a man who did it too. I'm not really a believer in that sort of thing - I can't see why a man hitting a woman is any worse, theoretically, than any other gender combination, because violence is violence and it depends on the situation - but the idea of getting hit by a strange man is much creepier than getting hit by a strange woman.

My favorite parts:

"He slapped her and ran," Biggio said of the fan who struck his wife, Patty. "She ran after him. My brother-in-law ended up putting him against the wall. That's pretty sorry [. . .] You don't slap a New Jersey girl and get away with it." Okay, I think Patty Biggio is my favorite baseball wife. That's awesome.

"I know the security in Chicago is doing a great job," Guillen said. "And when something happens so quick, you can't blame anybody. And the guy that did it, he should be brought to Biggio, and he's the one that can hopefully get him back. I told the police, 'Don't put him in jail. Bring him to me in the dugout.'" Now that is scary. Jail or angry Ozzie? Let me think.

Nice to come home from work and watch baseball. Less nice to watch it go down the drain and suck at life. At least I didn't have to stay up and lose sleep.

Down 3-0. Now, where have I heard that before . . . ?
