Sep. 1st, 2005 04:47 pmA couple things.
* Maine is raising the taxes on cigarettes by two dollars a pack on the nineteenth. I don't like smoking nearly well enough to pay six bucks for a pack of Camels, so I am quitting. Today I am implementing the first stage of my plan: Only smoke at work. Since I have gotten accustomed to wandering out for a smoke whenever I feel like it (or when something particularly stupid happens in the game I'm watching), this is going to make me rather itchy. Thus, I may IM some of you out of nowhere begging for a distraction. Just a headsup in case you have anything you think might take my mind off things. (Yes, I am also stocked up on gum and hard candy, but the oral thing is just part of it.) Thanks and love in advance to anyone willing to help out.
* All my teams won last night! Red Sox beat the Devil Rays 7-6 (same score as the previous game), thanks partly to TWO homers from Kevin "Homer? What's That?" Millar. Tigers beat the Indians 4-3, much to my delight, because I hate the Indians a whole lot, and also it means the Tigers won. *g* The starting pitching in that game was awesome on both sides (yay, Mike Maroth!), but their bullpen cracked a little more than ours did. I am so proud. And the Astros were on the other side of a shutout for once, winning 10-0 over the Reds. Astros, pull it together and start playing more good ball like this again, because you are still in the wild card race.
* Finally, one of my local radio stations, WBLM, has organized a drive to gather bottled water and has obtained donated services from a trucking company to take the water to New Orleans. I continue to be broke and useless, but this does make me think that there are probably a lot of radio stations doing similar drives for water or money or food or what have you. So check around in your area, look up the webpages for the stations you don't generally listen to, and see what's going on. You might find something great that you can help out with.
