This day totally wins.

I opened it by having an actual conversation with Scott - a conversation in the traditional sense, you understand, where we both talked and discussed things, as opposed to a conversation in the usual Scott sense, where he says the same thing eight times and then is annoyed when you hint that he needs to be quiet and go away now (I have discovered that looking pointedly at my watch does the trick nicely). It turns out that when he does the normal conversation thing, he is interesting to talk to.

Then, I took a bus to Falmouth, as I was in dire need of work pants and birthday gifts (my brother Colby turned four today and his party is on Sunday), and the Falmouth Wal-Mart is right on the bus line. I had lunch at Wendy's, and not a second too soon because I hadn't eaten and my blood sugar was falling into the negative digits. Then, because I have recently rediscovered a gift card I got for Christmas, I wandered to Olympia Sports. AND I FOUND MY WELLS SHIRT YAY. With the right number and everything. I'd like to try and save it for Opening Day next weekend (!!!), but I think I'll end up breaking down and wearing it before then. Like, tomorrow. I am so happy. I love Wells so much for so little reason that it is just ridiculous.

Then at Wal-Mart, I procured what I needed at a reasonable price, which is kind of the definition of Wal-Mart, much as I hate to shop there. When I was done, I had quite a while to wait before the next bus, so I went over to the little cafe thing to get a soda.

So I go bouncing up to the counter in my World Series Championship shirt and Sox cap, and ask the counter guy (who, incidentally, is wearing a Patriots shirt) for a cup for a small soda, please. He says, "No problem. And since you're a Red Sox fan, it's on me." Me, intelligently: "Oooo! Thank you!"

THEN, when I'm outside waiting for the bus, I call my mom to make sure that the present I picked (a toy tractor) was a good one. Which, duh, because four year old boy and toy tractor. During the course of the conversation, I discovered that, when she takes me shopping for the pot and pan I need, she intends to pay for them. I had assumed, of course, that I would be buying them myself, so I was delighted.

Not three minutes after I hang up, I spot my grandmother going into Wal-Mart. Timing is everything. We had time for a quick chat before the bus arrived (Her, pointing at the cigarette in my right hand: "What are you doing with that thing?" Me: ". . . I don't know. Someone just walked up and put it right in my hand!" Which is goofy, but made her laugh and not pursue the subject, so yay.)

The timing of the Falmouth bus made me just miss the bus home, so I had a bit of a wait for the next one, but I was ended up being entertained by the mother and child on the bench next to me. He was about two or so, and freaking adorable, and she was a lovely mother, playing little games with him and being patient when he fussed. It was so cool to watch.

And finally, I decided tonight to buy myself one last round of sushi from the excellent Japanese place down the street, as a sort of farewell to, you know, being able to eat out. It's been warm enough in the past few days (this is another thing about today; it was warm and breezy and beautiful and at no point was I shivering and miserable) that there is an actual sidewalk again in most spots, so walking down Forest Avenue is not the life-threatening endeavor that it's been most of the winter. I left at about six and discovered that it was still light outside. At SIX. I swear, just yesterday I went out at five-thirty and it was practically dark.

And when I got my food home and opened the bag, I found that they had given me not one, but TWO bowls of miso soup. I love miso soup.

Yep. This day wins a whole lot.
