Yikes, I thought yesterday that I wasn't going to be able to get out to vote. See, I'm used to living in Yarmouth, which is all small and stuff and has exactly one place to go vote.

Portland, however, being a city, has many places. Which, okay, I did know that. But I didn't realize until I looked them up yesterday that I had to vote at a specific place, as opposed to choosing one based on whether I knew where it was. And the place I was supposed to go - The First Baptist Church, of all places - yeah, I didn't know where it was or how to get there, and I had to work this morning so I didn't know when I was going to get the time to figure it out. And walk, if I had to.

Then I had a flash of inspiration - Rikki knows where it is. Rikki already had plans to go before she went to work. All I had to do was inform my manager that I would be skipping out for a bit to go vote - and this is definitely telling, not asking; luckily, he didn't mind, 'cos I'd hate to have to quit a job so I could vote - and then go with Rikki.

So, I did. And I cast the vote I've been waiting to cast for almost four years. When I put my ballot in the box, I actually sighed with relief.

So that's that taken care of. Now comes the nailbiting suspense and grim expectation of doom.

Although I did get a good customer today. He was wearing a Kerry/Edwards button, so I asked, "What do you think of our chances?"

Without hesitation, he declared, "We're gonna kick the shit out of 'em!"

And you know what? If the Red Sox can win the World Series, anything can happen.

I'll just have to keep telling myself that.

(PS: In case this wasn't clear, of course I voted for Kerry. Just, uh, no one tell Rimmer, okay?)
