I've spent the last week or so catching up with Freaks and Geeks through Netflix. I'd signed the online petition to get it on DVD 'cos I'd seen a few eps when they were running on the Family Channel and I liked it, and boy am I glad I had a tiny part in that. Because it's such a good show, and renting it through Netflix is a drag because the discs aren't coming nearly as quickly as I would like.

And you know, as if it's not enough for it to be wonderfully written and have well-developed characters and minute attention to detail and continuity, it also has this tendency to have exciting guest stars. I've seen loads of people show up that I already knew from somewhere else.

* Ben Foster, whom I've loved since his days on that Disney show Flash Forward way back when.
* Tom Wilson, best known to the general population as Thomas F Wilson, aka Biff. Yes, that Biff. The best part of this was that, in his first ep, I was sitting there like, "That guy reminds me of Thomas Wilson. But that's just because he's blond and the character's a lot like Biff, and I should probably give it a rest with the Back to the Future for a while." I'm not sure why I assumed that it couldn't actually be him. But I learned better when he showed up in the next episode and I spotted his name in the credits: ". . . oh. Cool!"
* Shia LaBeouf. Or however you spell it, I think that's actually the French for "beef" and his name is off that by one letter, but I'm too lazy to check. I didn't actually recognize him because he's, like, ten in the episode, but after the Tom Wilson confusion I learned to keep an eye on the credits and so spotted his name at the end.
* Not one but TWO MST3K alumni. Trace Beaulieu, who looks staggeringly different without his Doctor Forrester makeup (I hadn't realized how much of that look was makeup), and Joel Hodgson, who caused me to shriek embarrassingly.
* David Krumholtz. I would guess that he's best known (at least to those reading this) for his role as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's friend in 10 Things I Hate About You. (Which incidentally, also contains the Joan Jett song they used for the F&G theme.) He's been in about a million movies, though, and is impossible not to recognize once you know who he is.

And Hoedogg, who's a long-time F&G fan and thrilled that I've discovered the show, has told me that Ben Stiller (!) will show up too.

I have three episodes left to go, should get them from Netflix tomorrow, and just can't wait. I so need to own this series, the very millisecond I have the money. I'm not even done with it and I already want to watch it all over again.
