I'd just like to start off by saying that my webmistress, [livejournal.com profile] amatia, is the best webmistress EVER. She had to switch providers, and now acherontia.net is acherontia.org. Not only did she have to switch everything over, but she gave herself even more work by saving every file for every person she's been hosting and reuploading. All I have to do is change all the links on my site. Which I will do Tuesday, as it's my next day off and I shall have most of it to putz around. Surely I'll be able to spare an hour to fix my links.

So, YAY!

Went out to the movies with Mom and sister last night. Mom and I intended to take Chelsea to see PotC, as she hasn't yet. Unfortunately, the place where we thought we'd be seeing it had changed shows; it only shows two movies at a time, and stopped showing PotC yesterday. So we were trying to figur eout what to do instead when we approached the local drive-in.

"Shall we pull over and see what's playing?"
"Yeah!"

Score: Double feature of Freaky Friday and PotC. So, we went to that.

For all I got sick to death of hearing Jamie Lee Curtis scream "I'M LIKE THE CRYPTKEEPER!!" five MILLION times in the previews, Freaky Friday was good. Unnecessary, perhaps, as they've definitely done it like twice before, but good. Lindsay Lohan is eerily talented at channelling a fairly conservative forty-year-old woman; not once does she seem like a kid trying to act like a grown-up. Plus, there was an extremely appropriate mention of Hamlet. Jamie Lee's character is remarrying after her husband passed away, and the movie explores (though, happily, not to death) the idea that her kids - Lindsay's character in particular - feel that she is marrying too soon. Shades of Hamlet, Gertrude, and Claudius, anyone? (Happily, the idea of Ryan having murdered the dad never comes up.) Since the scene where it's mentioned is a generic classroom situation (any famous Shakespeare play would have served the same purpose), I suspect that the screenwriters chose Hamlet with that parallel in mind. Cooooool.

There's the inevitable contrived wackiness, of course (Tess's wedding rehearsal is that night! Anna's band's big audition is that night! And ohmigod, Ryan's snagged Tess a surprise spot on TV to talk about a book that Anna never bothered to read!), but there's also great character exploration and the device used to pull the switch is pretty amusing. I never intended to see this movie, and I was surprised to find myself watching it last night, but I'll probably rent it when it comes out.

Then there was PotC - my nineth viewing, which I could have survived without, but I was psyched to see it with Chels. (Incidentally - I won't bore you with the details, but I will mention that I don't recommend going to the drive-in with one car, three people, and no lawn chairs.)

Halfway through she admitted that she was tired and we switched places so she could lay down in the backseat. Sigh. However, she seemed to like what she did watch, and declared her liking for Captain Jack practically before he'd even spoken, so there is potential.
