(no subject)

You know what, I am just going to present this without (much) comment. Dead Bodies is a ridiculous-in-a-good-way movie that Andrew Scott did in 2003. D/s verse AUs are a thing where dominant and submissive are the rough equivalent of gender roles. Hours of conversation with [personal profile] oxfordtweed caused me to combine the two. I wrote this months ago and I don't think it's ever going to go anywhere (not because I don't want it to, but because the story can only end badly and I just can't bring myself to do it), so I decided it was time to say fuck it and just throw it up on my journal already.

So! Here is a non-porny kink-based AU of an obscure movie! Enjoy. If you hate it, blame Zed.

Noel doesn't remember ever actually deciding to give Tommy a key to his flat. It was just the natural thing to do, once he'd wrangled a place of his own. Other subs gave their spare keys to their doms if they had one, or their parents if they didn't. Noel gave his to Tommy.

He thinks Tommy either forgot about the key or won't admit to losing it until he hears his door open at about midnight, three days after Jean's come back. For a second he forgets about the fucking thing, just long enough for his heart to jump into his throat before Tommy appears in the doorway. It can't mean anything good, Tommy turning up unannounced at this time of night, but Noel is so relieved to see him after three days' radio silence that he smiles anyway, for a second or two.

It isn't all that unusual for a sub to go incommunicado for a little while after meeting a new dom; when a relationship is being repaired and needs that much more work for the dom to reestablish control, it's even expected, especially when a sub like Tommy is involved. A lot of people'd think three days is a bit soon for Tommy to be surfacing again.

But none of those people know Jean. As far as Noel is concerned, three minutes is too long for any sub to be alone with her. Some doms shouldn't be allowed to have subs at all. Her leaving was the best thing that could have happened; her coming back was by far the worst.

At first glance, Tommy doesn't look like he's in bad shape. The sleeves of his hoodie are long enough to cover his wrists. The bruises on his throat are pretty much par for the course for him; he's not had a dom yet who could keep their hands off that neck of his, especially with the way he insists on keeping his hair short.

But Noel knows better. He knows Tommy. He can read Tommy better than any dom ever could, and what he sees now turns his stomach into knots.

"Didn't think you'd be up." Tommy's voice is hoarse and raw-sounding.

Noel shrugs. "I couldn't sleep." He gropes for a suitable crack about the siren song of late-night telly, something to sound normal, but he can't quite get there, so instead he says, "You can come in."

(It matters to Tommy, to give and be given explicit permission. Permission, not instruction.)

Tommy does come in, crossing the room to the sofa Noel is sitting on. He starts to budge up to make space for Tommy to sit next to him, but Tommy sits on the floor instead.

He's sitting, not kneeling - Tommy never kneels voluntarily for anyone - and he doesn't bother to sit on Noel's right when the angle of approach makes it more convenient to be on his left instead, but he's still there. Noel's never seen Tommy do anything close to this with another sub before, not even as a joke. Not even with him. He freezes a little, staring down at Tommy, until Tommy silently leans his head against Noel's knee. Then he gets it.

Without a word, he reaches out and starts to stroke Tommy's hair, carding his fingers through to caress his scalp and brush his fingertips across the back of Tommy's neck, up near his hairline.

It works exactly the way it should: the tension in Tommy's shoulders disappears; he exhales a long, slow breath; he leans up into Noel's touch and closes his eyes.

If Noel hadn't already known for a fact Jean was a shitty dom, this would prove it. She should be the one soothing Tommy and bringing him back into a secure space after whatever the fuck she's done to him. He shouldn't have to sneak out at midnight to get his peace from another fucking sub, for Christ's sake.

Noel presses his lips together hard, concentrating on keeping his hand gentle in Tommy's hair. He may be lacking a dom's instincts, but the ability to provide comfort isn't as exclusive to doms as they like to tell each other it is. He knows very well that the absolute last thing Tommy needs right now is for him to be passing along his anger.

Eventually, Tommy has relaxed enough to be leant more fully against Noel's leg, though he still takes care to avoid letting his back touch the sofa. Noel keeps stroking his hair; Tommy will make it clear when he's had enough.

"Would you mind taking Lewis for a while?" The rawness in Tommy's voice is still audible, blurred only a little by the more comfortable state Noel has managed to put him into. "Just till she cools off about him."

Just so nothing happens to him, he doesn't have to say. Jean has been open about her dislike for Tommy's pet from the start. The first time around she seemed content enough to let Tommy keep him despite her frequent orders to get rid of him, if only because every time Tommy disobeyed gave her a new opportunity to punish him.

She must really be cracking down now for Tommy to be worrying about Lewis's safety.

"No problem," Noel says. "We can get him first thing, before I have to go into work." He doesn't know where he's going to fit Lewis's aquarium into his tiny flat, but he'll figure something out.

"Thanks," Tommy says quietly.

"Just tell me she's not back permanently," Noel says. "You refused her collar, for fuck's sake, how many other fucking clues does she need?"

"She said a few days."

"It's been a few days."

"Whatever 'a few days' means on her planet, then," Tommy says.

"You and Lewis can both stay here if you want," Noel says, even though he knows what the answer will be.

"I'm not letting her chase me off." Tommy sits up abruptly, dislodging Noel's hand. "I lived there first. She left before, she'll do it again. I just have to wait her out."

Noel sighs. "Yeah," he says, "all right."
