So mostly I prefer the bottling-it-up approach to dealing with my emotions, and mostly it works pretty well. I think I've got most of you faked into believing I'm a happy and well-balanced human being.

Well, most of the time I am. But not lately. I don't want to get into it, but the past few months have been steadily getting worse and I'm having to admit to the scary D word: Depression. I have it. I have it, I hate it, it's gonna be ruling my brain for a while.

So what I want is stuff to throw at the depression to make a little smaller. Comment with good things. Give me a list. Profound things, tiny things, fandom things (things from your fandom or on mine, whichever), that time you got those shoes for ten bucks when the orignal price was ninety. Whatver. Our joys and our pains in fandom, they are above this shit

Because magic exists.

You take a spoon of this, a shaking of that with a helping of maybe that over there. You can apply heat or cold or just time, and all those spoons and heapings and cups are transformed.

It's alchemy, magic of the most basic kind. And you can share it, share that magic and make people smile and their tastebuds dance. Or it can be a secret, shared by one and dyed funny colours to entertain no one but oneself, just because.

- Going out for spontaneous dinners with people from my program, in the midst of finals. We work hard, but we party hard too. And they're all such a good bunch of people.

- Twenty years ago, nobody even knew whether any planets existed outside our solar system, and now we know of almost a thousand of them--Earth-sized planets, planets in their stars' habitable zones, planets made of superdense liquid water, planets orbiting binary or even trinary star systems, a diamond planet ~~called Midnight~~ orbiting a neutron star... the number rises to three thousand if you count the unconfirmed planet candidates that the Kepler project has turned up in the past year of just picking one tiny patch of sky and looking at it really hard. Thousands of planets in one tiny patch of sky. Think how many more we'll find if we just keep looking.

- Green or mint tea spiked with Chartreuse is really tasty.

- Last week, on the route I take to work every day, the cops pulled over a guy dressed as Batman driving a custom black Lamborghini with no tags.

- As if anything could top that... it turns out he's a rich former businessman whose hobby is going to visit kids at the cancer ward dressed up as Batman. He'd taken off his license plates so he could replace them with a bat symbol. The cops didn't ticket him.
