Oh, Torchwood. Why do you suck me in every time?

Okay, WHAT. WHAT are they trying to say with Jack's Injury of Ominous Doom? Since when the fuck does he not get hurt? Immortality, yes. Super healing, not so much. Was the idea supposed to be that he was not healing at all, not even at the rate a person should be healing anyway? Because I could get behind that. But the presentation of it (complete, if you remember, with Jack gaping hilariously at his bruises in the mirror) was really confusing and seemed to imply that Jack expected to be recovering with Wolverine speed, and THAT IS NOT A THING.

Although it is entirely possible that he just thinks it is because he dies so damn often that his body never gets a chance to heal normally. That would be pretty funny.

Not funny: BEHEADED BURNT-OUT HUSK GUY JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. That stomps on so many of my HNNNNNNG DO NOT WANT buttons, I cannot even. As a reminder of the fact that Jack is a goddamn asshole it was pretty tasty, because you know he knew that shit was not going to work and he just wanted it confirmed as a formality, and of that I approve because characterization, but hrrrrrrrk I had to cover my eyes because I was so viscerally grossed out. I'm gonna go make more unspellable noises for a while. God, that's gonna stay with me for a while.

But the worst part is that that's probably going to be the last episode I see for a little while. Next week I'll be at my grandmother's looking after her cat while she recovers from shoulder surgery (the grandmother, not the cat), and while Grandma has cable she does not have internet, and I don't know if she has Starz but I'm not banking on it. And round about then is when my internet is going to get cut off anyway, because I am unemployed and broke and ISPs get cranky when you don't pay your bills. Hopefully it won't be out for too terribly long, and I'll still be able to take my laptop places and use internet there, but downloading episodes is probably going to be out of the question. But hey, marathoning everything I missed will be fun and exciting, right?

If the problem is size, I could upload those episodes in small parts for you?

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, that might help a lot. The problem with downloading on, say, a library network is that it's so diffuse, downloading a large file like that could take a long damn time. I mean, that might not be an issue at all, I don't know yet, but if it is then the smaller chunks would likely be very helpful. Thank you. ♥

have you found out anything with this? I can upload anytime, so ♥

I've actually been having a pretty good time of it so far! I'll let you know if that changes. Thanks so much for offering, though. ♥

I think it was casually established that Jack heals faster than normal people. Not Wolverine fast, no, but waay faster than normal people. It comes up more in the novels than the TV show (and those aren't exactly confirmed canon, though they aren't unconfirmed either), but Jack isn't used to being hurt for more than maybe a day at a time.

And yes Jack is such a jerk, I was really hoping Gwen was going to punch him in the face, but my dreams were not realized.

I hope you figure out a way to watch the rest of it!

I don't remember that being on the show at all! I mean, that could just be me, I'm the first to admit that my memory is terrible, but I feel like I would have incorporated it into my overall knowledge of the character if that were the case. The novels, I don't know; I've read/listened to several of them, but they're so disposable that they tend to fall out of my brain pretty quickly. I don't know, the whole thing just seems fishy to me.

I would love for Gwen to punch Jack in the face. I would accept Rhys doing it, most definitely, but Gwen has more right to it.

I think it must have come up once or twice, because I definitely knew about it before reading the novels. It wasn't in Utopia/Sound of Drums on DW, was it? :/

I just think Gwen forgave him way too easily. I had a feeling it was going to happen, but I think she should have held onto her grudge a little longer. Punch him, Gwen, do it, it'll make you feel better.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
It might've been in Utopia? I don't think it was in the other two eps of that arc, because I've watched those a ridiculous number of times. But I've only watched Utopia a couple of times and really only remember the high points (ie, OMG Derek Jacobi YAY).

Well, she may yet get to the punching! Most of her focus was on keeping Annwyn (I think?) safe, and Jack was doing things that aligned with that, so punching might not have occurred to her yet. There's still time!

If that happens, I will throw a party.

That was gross, and definitely unspellable, although not far beyond a lot of Series 2. I thought is was Jack's MOST Jack-like scene, so I had no problem with HIM.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, upon reflection, I think I agree with that. It was the only scene where I was really like, "Yep, that's Jack," as opposed to, "Wow, that - sure is John Barrowman being Jack, isn't it?"

I had that feeling a lot with most of the returning characters, actually; either it felt like the actors were trying to get back into the characters, or like RTD was trying to strike some kind of balance between the characters we know and the versions that might appeal to an American audience. Hopefully it'll start feeling more authentic as it goes on, now that the premise is established and most of the exposition is out of the way.

I'm endlessly amused by "It's like a British version of New Jersey."

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, that banter was cute. It reminded me of Gwen and Rhys snarking together on the phone in CoE. I expect it was also RTD trying to remind UK fans that they are not forgotten.

My favorite favorite favorite part was when Gwen and Rhys were horsing around, competitively painting the wall... and there was not a single bit of paint on the rollers. OH, SHOW.
