(no subject)

Yesterday I watched the Red Sox-Yankees game with my grandmother. I haven't seriously watched baseball in a long time - my attention span finally gave out, plus I probably burned myself out on it a little. I was reading some of my old entries last night, some of them are pretty intense. While baseball had my attention, it had ALL my attention, and some of the teams I followed (of COURSE I followed more than one at a time, see above in re: attention span) were absolutely insane and exhausting. I'm not sure how I didn't lose my damn mind. Actually, I think I did a few times.

But anyway, I still get game score alerts for my teams, and since my grandmother has become an ardent Red Sox fan in the last couple of years, watching a game with her is a lot of fun. Except I still don't pay much attention overall, and you know what? Baseball may still be kind of static in my head, but it's moved on.

A lot of guys are in the wrong damn uniforms these days. The Yankees need to stop signing/trading for players I still love, what the hell. Curtis Granderson got a homerun yesterday and I couldn't decide whether to cheer or swear. And I see you in those pinstripes, Lance Berkman, don't you think for a second that you can hide.

But anyway. Seeing some familiar faces got me all nostalgic, and I ended up spending entirely too much time reading a slew of entries from some certain old RP journals. (Hey, [livejournal.com profile] americanleaguer, did we ever talk about this in any depth? It seems like we should have, but I can't remember!) So out of curiosity, I Googled Bondo.

And I . . . I really picked the right day to do that.

When potential free agent Jeremy Bonderman was asked if he feels he'll be back, he replied "honestly, probably not."

Brandon Inge hopes Jeremy Bonderman won't call it a career. (I see Inge is still the go-to guy for a few quotes. Heh.)

This is probably old news to everyone else, but I am WTFing. Jeremy Bonderman, if you end up in pinstripes, I am going to be so mad at you.

I learned a lot about RPing that I've applied to RP since. And I totally like to gank and recycle some details I used - little things like Justin being a horrible driver, and other stuff that I notice when I reread those threads. (And sometimes, when getting into the messier stuff, I'll be like, "Okay, that's a little too much like Bondo and/or Justin, I need to dial that back a few notches.")

Oh god, so much has happened, I cannot even. I would love to see the return of [livejournal.com profile] farnsworthalot, I was cracking the fuck up reading those entries last night, but . . . so much. Getting traded back to Detroit a year and a half too late is just the BEGINNING.

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Justin is a terrible driver in canon/real life! We have evidence of this!

Sometimes I like to think about the kind of breakdown that would have led to the glasses/goatee period for Kyle. I mean, he was on the Royals, which would have been the first part, but a lot probably went into that particular disintegration. Probably it should be a fic. Someone get on that.

Part of me wants to know what the hell happened/happens with him and Bondo, just because I want to see more of the story! but I want someone else to write it so I can be lazy and just read it, ha ha.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Bondo and Justin are also BFF IRL, correct? I remember finding that hilarious when I read it. I bet fake!Justin spent a lot of time during Kyle's second stint in Detroit prepared to do some serious mediating if necessary.

This made me lol, because yep. I want to know, too! But I've missed a LOT since I faded out of baseball fandom, I'd have to figure out how to look it all up. At the very least, maybe we could hash it out.

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Bondo and Justin are also BFF IRL, correct? Yes! They play paintball together. They go to amusement parks together. Man-dating!

lol, I would need to look up stuff too. My sense of the timeline is so totally shot. Poor Kyle with the trades, I totally lost track of where he was and when.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that is amazing. See, that's the kind of stuff that's so hard to look up. I can find stats in five seconds for a general picture of what happened with Bondo's pitching and the Tigers' seasons, but baseball-reference.com won't tell me about Bondo and Justin having paintball wars. What kind of lousy reference site are they?

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I found the log of our conversation about the trade! I thought it would be on the computer I'm afraid to turn on lest it explode, but it was not. Shall I e-mail it?

Holy god, we actually played some stuff out, too, WHY DO I NOT REMEMBER THIS. I know exactly why I never followed up, at least - the RPG I've been in the last couple of years ate my brain shortly thereafter and I just cannot do two games at once. I have tried. Repeatedly. I always fail.

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, send it along. I don't think I have a log of that anywhere.

All this is making me want to write Kyle again. I need more time for writing so I can drag down every little idea, dammit.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Same email?

Heh, I know. I've been thinking about fake!world on and off all day. I have a surprising amount of stuff in my Sent folder of my email account, and a good chunk of logs still on the PC (I got a new MacBook a year ago), so I've been chasing those down. Good times.

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, same old shameful email. I'm too lazy to change it.

I can't believe how long ago this all was! Kyle really was my fic!baby for a long time too.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Sent!

Oh man, I know. I think back over it and I'm like, "Wait, 2005 was how long ago? Really? Who let that happen?" I actually ended up using the Tigers 2005 season for a paper in a Creative Fiction course, because it was all so crazy without having to make up a single word. (Obvs I left fake!world out of it, heh.)

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Loooooollll, I am rereading this now. What had even happened with Justin? I don't remember that at all.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I found something relevant going through my emails, but I can't find it again now. But I think they almost slept together? Except Kyle was overly aggressive for Justin's tastes, probably because Justin's issues at this point made Bondo look well-adjusted? I'm not sure exactly. I think I have sort of vaguely assumed that Kyle and Justin stayed friends, though this may be influenced by the hilarious AU and the AU AU it in turn spawned.

All those logs are, of course, on the scary-grindy-sound-making computer. I may risk a salvage attempt - it's not like I have any reason to want to avoid accidentally destroying it at this point other than a vague concern that it might light on fire or something.

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
LOL STILL READING I REMEMBER HAVING TO MAKE THAT PICKUP OF A DRUNK FRIEND RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE AND BEING SO PISSED OFF. HA HA OMG.

The AUs! What the hell was all that?! Oh maaaaaan, the memories. If you do pick up that Justin stuff definitely send it along, this is all entertaining as fuck for me now.

SO MANY PLOT BUNNIES, NO, BAD.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I found an email with incomplete versions of the AUs as attachments! I'd sent them to you to get a page count. I read through them and they are RIDICULOUS and (on my part, anyway; I tend to have this problem with logs that go too long) suffer so badly from the unevenness of RPing through the same night over a period of weeks. I mean, they were just self-indulgent fun, so I have no actual standards for them, but they are still hilarious.

I cannot even begin to tell you how differently I would approach playing !Bondo now. The passage of time has changed him a lot. He is definitely not a kid anymore. I have given this quite a bit of thought during all the rereading. XD

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
OK, I will have to look for those. They're probably still in my email... somewhere...

What little I remember about Kyle and Justin is probably totally mixed up with AU things and whatever 'really' happened, I have no idea.

I cannot even begin to tell you how differently I would approach playing !Bondo now. DON'T TEMPT ME WITH THIS, THAT IS SIMPLY CRUEL

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:23 am (UTC)(link)

Ditto. They hated each other cordially for a while, and then that changed when Kyle and Vance became friends, and that's all I'm absolutely sure of as being "canon."

DON'T TEMPT ME WITH THIS, THAT IS SIMPLY CRUEL

God, I know, aren't I awful?

[identity profile] americanleaguer.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
and I am dying at Kyle's incoherence here. I need to get someone with very few brain cells smashingly drunk in a fic so I can write that again.

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
yes omg. Drunk!Kyle still kills me with lols in the good way. :D

Wait, really?

I guess maybe not so much straight up terrible as... uh, reckless. Wait, I have the quote somewhere, let me dig it out.

This is Jeremy Bonderman speaking: "I absolutely will not ride in Justin's car. He drives crazy-- he has that need for speed. He loves his Porsche. I think I value my life a little more than he does right now."

And then this:

SN: Are you a speed junkie? A former teammate said we should ask you about your love of fast cars.
Verlander: I'm not one of those people who buys a car and just sticks it in their driveway. If I buy it, I'm going to drive it. I'm not saying it's bad that some guys do this, but I'm not buying a car for $200,000 just to bring it out 35 years from now.
SN: Where do you take the Porsche to drive fast?
Verlander: (Laughs.) Uh... the track? It just depends when I feel like going fast. I try not to get caught.
SN: How fast have you been able to go?
Verlander: 175.
SN: Where?
Verlander: Don't worry about it.

From a Sporting News article, iirc. Someone posted it and I saved it, because lol.

*dies* Oh man, what even.
