Supernatural!

You know what would have made this episode awesome? If the future world had, in fact, been an elaborate illusion. Actually, you know what? I'm going to proceed as though it was. Maybe Z was feeling a little creative this week, decided to try a route other than stage four cancer.

I'm so much happier now that I believe that, because now I don't have to try and figure out the ridiculous plot holes, contrivances, and "oh well just because that's why"s that permeated the plot. I don't have to call bullshit on the fucking embarrassing symbolism with the white suit and the roses. (FUCKING SERIOUSLY?????) Because it's all okay! Z was in a hurry and didn't have a chance to patch together a story that made sense and was vaguely believeable, and he's a little outta touch when it comes to symbolism that wasn't old a century ago.

Whew. I guess I didn't watch an episode that had a lot of potential but fell apart in the execution after all! Hooray!

. . . that doesn't address the second week in a row of omg wacky! humor with Castiel, which I am really going to have a problem with if it keeps up (Misha: hilarious; material: one-note and kind of embarrassing), but nothing's perfect.

. . . What symbolism with the white suit and the red rose? *dense*

White is ALL THE PURITY OF THE ANGELS and the roses were like ROSES IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN and seriously fucking gag me.

I mean, Lucifer was wearing white when he appeared to Nick and Sam, too, but "dead chicks in white" is standard procedure for SPN, so it wasn't as noticeable.

Maybe Lucifer is just really trite? ;)

I mean, seriously, he's been out of the loop for a long time, and has a really elevated sense of himself. Perhaps all the cheesetasticness was his doing?

XD I am on board with Lucifer being all heavy-handed-symbolism. Lilith was the same way--she laid on the CREEPY LITTLE GIRL thing really thick.

HA. Okay, I like this theory too. And Dean totally would've called him out on it if he'd been in anyone else.

A thing I did like: Castiel's cell phone! Just a couple episodes ago I was wondering, "Do you think he signed up for a plan with, like, T-Mobile, or did he just swing by a convenience store and pick up a Tracfone?" And now it's lookin' like TracFone, and that amuses me to no end. I want the scene where he purchased it.

'The voice is telling me that I'm running out of minutes.' XD

See, it says something that I was pretty sure the whole time that it was Zachariah's fantasy-future rather than an actual future. Because that's kind of what he does; that was his MO in 'It's a [Terrible? Horrible?] Life'--he gets into your head, places you in an actual, plausible location, and makes you think you're someone and somewhere you're not.

Hooray for shoring up my theory! Yeah, I totally forgot about that episode. I've got the memory of a broken sieve.

It just makes sense. The whole thing was too guided and overblown for it to be anything else. Or so I have decided in the cold light of day.

I have to admit, despite the fact that I'm a Jared/Sam girl, that a) yes, it was kinda heavy-handed and b) I'm seeing I'm in the minority, but white just really isn't Jared's best color. I knew immediately in the preview that Sam was going to be Lucifer in this episode...well, I saw a spoiler, too, but even without...it's really not that hard to piece together.

Yeah, the white was just - man, it was a nice suit, and JP did his damndest to not look like a jerk wearing a white suit, but . . . he looked like a jerk wearing a white suit. Not his fault.
