Things I am making a game of while I catch up on House (I am now up to 2x07):

* Checking the timestamp on the episode whenever a diagnosis is made. It doesn't matter how confident House is or how much sense it makes. If it's not at least thirty-three minutes in, he's wrong.

* Pretending Cameron was supposed to be on Grey's Anatomy, but got lost on the way and ended up on this show instead. I wanted to like her, as misogyny in fandom has annoyed me to the point where I automatically like female characters on general principle, but she is such a twit. I could totally see her hanging out with Izzie and Meredith. (Cristina would own her, and it would be awesome.)

* Guessing how many caning fics have been written to date.

* Guessing how many well-written caning fics have been written to date. This number is always much smaller.

* Trying to figure out why Wilson is friends with House. Seriously, what the hell? Maybe it's because I will associate Robert Sean Leonard with spineless sad Claudio until the day I die, but Wilson seems like - not the sort of person who would want to share space with a raging sociopath for more than five minutes. I can only assume that this will be addressed in some manner or another, because as it stands, what the hell?

* Speaking of Wilson, trying to dissect his personal life. I kind of love that it takes place entirely offscreen and we have no proof that he is, was, or has ever been married. I am familiar enough with spoilers to know that this changes, but for now it's like a running gag that isn't actually supposed to be funny.

* Taking a mathematical approach to working out exactly how many lifetimes of amazing karma House has built up to avoid having been fired so often his resume is heavier than the Bible, or being sued out of existence.

* Waiting for House to fuck up and NOT be able to make up for it by being right. I am not going to hold my breath.

I have surprisingly not seen many caning fics. Then again, I'm only on the outskirts of House fandom.

And as for Wilson's relationships. Well. I'll leave that to you to catch up on. :P

Wilson is massively codependent. He is the nicest of all "nice" guys. He is a masochist beyond all previous confirmed levels of masochism.

He also seems to get off on being needed by House. :/ I love him, but mostly because he is just a fucked up as House but in subtler ways. And after this last season finale, he is going to be even more fucked up. It's a little disconcerting.

Cameron is totally a twit, but she gets better! :D

The only way Cameron gets better is when she's not in an episode.

Cane fics are surprisingly rare ... at least in the areas I lurk.

If that's the criteria for House's karma, then his points must actually be low since he couldn't keep a job before Cuddy hired him and he has his own section of the budget set aside for shenanigans and lawsuits.

Why Wilson is friends with House is a great one to watch unfold. I think it really gets going in the latter half of Season 2 and progressively snow balls from there.

Your last point - heh.

Btw, welcome (finally!) to House.

I'm telling you, dude. Grey's Anatomy character. It makes her infinitely more entertaining. She acts like she's on GA and everything. It's great.

This is baffling. It's practically BUILT IN. And Chase is CANONICALLY FAMILIAR with BDSM. BUILT IN. Sigh.

Your last point - heh.

I am going to be sad if this cryptic remark is in reference to the fake brain cancer storyline I already know about (it's one of those spoilers that's kind of hard to avoid), because as much as I am looking forward to that, I like to be surprised too.

I'd completely forgotten about the fake brain cancer storyline until you just mentioned it.

Me: "fake brain cancer? .... oh, yeah, that's right."

Ahh, but I don't read Chase fics so maybe that's where those naughty canes are lurking.

Oh, excellent. I am excited now. And wondering what House could do to top faking brain cancer. He's such a sociopath. I occasionally wonder if TPTB actually did some research on Antisocial Personality Disorder, because if I sat down and mapped it out even with just what I've seen to date (just started 2x16) I could probably find evidence of all six criteria.

Well, I would hope so. I refuse to believe that I am the first one to make this connection.

. . . of course, whether anything that has been written is worth reading is another story. I assume this fandom has the same quality:crap ratio as every other.

House is such a great character. He's always making you wonder what he'll do next. I completely agree, you could probably easily find all the criteria even just through the first season and a half.

There have been some instances of the cane being touched suggestively, I'm guilty of writing that, but I only remember ever seeing one actual cane porn fic a really long time ago. But, there are tons of House fic LJ communities and archives on other sites, so I'd bet if I actually looked, it wouldn't be too hard to find.

The quality:crap ratio is probably the same, maybe skewed slightly even more in the crap direction since House fandom is so huge ... I'm really more into the tiny fandoms, myself. I usually don't stray too far from [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson, but it's best to stay away from reading any sort of non-fic posts because too many of the H/W people love to fight amongst themselves and bitch constantly, mostly about wild speculation and out-of-context spoilers. There's a lot of good fic there and a lot of badfic too.

And, hey, if you ever want to branch out, there's always the 99.5% drama-free community I mod: [livejournal.com profile] fryandorlaurie which covers all tv shows, movies, and rps of Hugh Laurie (and/or Stephen Fry). We do get a House fic now and again.
