Apparently, instead of tackling unfinished fic, or any of the three given papers I have due next week (all for the same class, what the fuck), my brain wishes to produce drabbles.

Another Torchwood bit. Again, not inherently spoilery, but confusing if you're not up-to-date. Gen, G.

Owen's taken to walking home on late nights. He won't tire and he certainly has the extra time to spare. Even for him, it's not particularly safe, out alone so late, but he doesn't much care.

A man falls into step next to him one night and says his name. When Owen looks over, wary, the man smiles.

"Well, aren't you just something."

Owen stops. It sounds like a clumsy flirt, but -

- but their eyes meet, and his are sharp, and in the distance Owen can hear the pounding of drums.

I'm going to have to pick up a drabble challenge or something if this keeps up. At least give it some sort of organization.

Dude, much thanks for the Owen!Fic. :) He seems to score more hatred than I can account for on some forums/circles, and really he's one of the only characters I've liked since BtVS's Spike went off-air. *g* Really loved your short from the other day, too. ;) AND that's including me being two eps behind from watching on BBCA.

Hey, no problem! Owen was just a smidge too abrasive even for me in series one (seriously, I kept going, "Owen, you would be my favorite character if you were just a little bit less of an asshole."), but the overhaul that everyone in Torchwood got for series two fixed that. (And it was certainly more organic and subtle a personality shift than some characters got, IANTO.) So he did become my favorite, and now I'm totally fascinated by his situation and am not ready to leave it alone yet.

Try [livejournal.com profile] owenharper_fans for more Owen-centric fic. And I know what you mean about Spike; it was his sheer awesomeness in season two that made me finally accept that I just like the villains. I just wish they hadn't run the character into the ground.

Oh, yeah, and depending on how you feel about piracy, feel free to e-mail me for a solution to that pesky two-eps-behind thing. ;)

Lol dude - I don't know what it says about me that I even enjoyed S1 Owen. As soon as I saw "Ghost Machine," they gave him enough of a conflicted anti-hero edge that I was hooked. I knew he wasn't likable, but there was obvs more to this character so... I really like how they've developed his backstory and revealed vulnerable bits w/out changing his basic defense mechanisms. It's one thing to show that a "bad" character can be sensitive, it's another out-of-character thing to completely rewrite them.

Which, yes - Ianto is delightful this season. But SUCH an abrupt shift!

I feel very good about piracy! Will have to drop you a line... ;)

PS - Thanks for the comm link! I'm bookmarking for one of those moments when I'm at work and need to distract mysel! *g*

Characters don't have to be likeable for me to like them. *g* Owen just had so many moments in series one where the writers were clearly trying to establish him as The Torchwood Jerk that I just didn't click with him very well. When I can feel the writers trying too hard, it's really distracting.

When they allowed him moments of acting like a decent person in S2, he started seeming more like a real character to me. I liked the idea of him having woken up at some point during the time between the series and realized that it was time to make some changes. And, like a real person who's made a decision like that, he frequently backslid. That's my take on it, anyway. It made him a lot easier to connect to for me.

Ianto, conversely, got his new personality from an alien artifact of some kind. He opened a box that contained a sense of humor. That's all I can come up with. *g*
