Just a note:

Last night, owing to having slept in yesterday (omg I love federal holidays this semester, since I stuck myself in classes six days a week), I got about three hours' sleep. Tonight, I am seeing a play I had forgotten about that will probably end at around ten-thirty. I cannot find time in my schedule for a nap.

Therefore, I will probably not be available for online activities tonight.

And while I'm posting, I want to take note of something in the new episode of Dexter that tickled me so immensely that I'm still thinking of it whilst half-conscious.

The episode opened in Lila's apartment, doing a slow pan along as we heard Lila's voice off-screen, giving Dexter directions: "Use a feather-light touch, yes, that's it . . ."

Because I have watched television before, I thought, "Oh, gag, misdirection-based comedy. Hurry up and reveal that she's teaching him to paint or something so I can get started repressing the fact that a show this awesome actually resorted to such crap."

Pan (eventually) to Dexter and Lila . . . having sex. Cut to me giggling hysterically.

How can I not love a show that takes a crappy old joke and turns it on its head?

(Also, what is up with Dexter being all about sex with Lila? He chose Rita as a girlfriend way back when because she wasn't interested in sex at all after what Paul did to her, and even as her sex drive did start to blossom, I always kind of got the impression that Dexter could take or leave having sex with her; after she failed to reject him, he lost his anxiety about it, but if they never did it again, he wouldn't miss it too much. Is this another way the writers are showing us how much Dexter loses control of himself with Lila, or are they slipping a bit? I could be influenced by book!Dexter's hilariously fierce disgust with sex and its inherent lack of dignity, but I found Dexter's lack of sexual drive to be an interesting part of the character. Hey! Maybe that's where the lust for the kill goes? Because as fucked up as things with Lila are revealing themselves to be, at least with her he feels no need to kill - but doesn't that have to go somewhere? I take my doubt back. This show is so meticulously written that it has to be something along those lines. I love it. I watched the entire first season all at once and it was great, but I also love waiting eagerly for each new episode of season two and seeing things get revealed bit by bit. And I love knowing that I am in for a compelling hour of TV. And I love being shocked by something new every episode, and that it all rings true to the show and never feels gratuitous. They have a third season in the works and I almost wish they didn't, because it is going to be a tragic fucking day when this show jumps the shark.)

Has any show actually jumped the shark since the Fonz did on Happy Days? Inquiring minds, ya know.

I probably won't be around either. I got about four hours of sleep. BOO.
