Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] beckla30, plus everyone else on my flist: Comment on this post. I'll choose seven userpics from your profile and you'll explain what they mean and why you're using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

This is a still from Shaun of the Dead, in one of the two fantasy sequences where Shaun imagines everything working out perfectly during the zombie invasion. I love this movie and would highly recommend it, except that I have a hard time imagining that anyone on my flist - and more to the point, anyone on my flist who is actually reading this post - hasn't already seen and possibly memorized it. I use this icon when a happy or congratulatory icon is called for.

This is GIR from Invader Zim. I saw it floating around for ages before I grabbed it, and to this day I have no idea who made it. GIR is meant to be Zim's robot companion/helper in his quest to take over Earth. Problem is, Zim's higher ups can't stand him and his incompetence and just sent him to Earth to get him out of their way, so they discreetly stuffed GIR's head with (literal) garbage for brains. The result is a staggeringly stupid and hyperactive spaz of a robot. "Yes! Wait . . . I dunno," is a pretty good encapsulation of GIR's approach to everything. This icon is perfect for those, "Wait . . . what?" posts about things that are baffling but don't raise the ire or incredulity required for a "WTF" response. Or for when I start typing and realize by the end of the post or comment that I have no clue where I'm going with it.

My Houston boyfriend, Morgan Ensberg! Except now he is my San Diego boyfriend. Morgan gets the dubious honor of being the only baseball player to be referred to as my boyfriend, because he is just so darned adorable. I believe I found this picture in a birthday picspam [livejournal.com profile] piney61 compiled for me a couple years ago.

Well, it's true, isn't it? I adore Hamlet the play, but not so much Hamlet the prince. He annoys me, and more often than not I am waiting for him to JUST SHUT UP, because see icon. Shut up, Hamlet. This icon is good for making me look all smart and stuff. *g*

So I was thinking that I needed a Doctor Who icon. I'd been taking screencaps of eps using my VLC Player (I loooove VLC Player - not only is it free, and not only does it play any video file you throw at it [unlike the default programs that come with Windows and Apple], but it takes screencaps!), but lack inspiration, until! I happened to be browsing comments at Surviving Grady after the inexplicable near-sweep of the Red Sox by the A's, and came across a comment that went approximately like this: "Lenny DiNardo gets the win against the Red Sox? And Alan Embree gets the save? Where the fuck planet am I on?" That typo put the finishing touch on the comment, which made me laugh and laugh. And then I knew exactly what icon to make.

This is a redo of one of the first icons I ever made. The first version of it was casually modied from a pin I'd made, and you can see it; there's a visible circle where I simply filled in the corners with black and called it good. I held on to the icon for years before I finally decided that it needed an overhaul to make it look not crappy. This is Kenneth Branagh as Victor Frankenstein, and the quote is from one of my favorite parts of the movie. After Victor is denounced during a class by his professor as being mad for thinking the dead could be brought back to life, he's stalking angrily along when he is stopped by a classmate, Henry Clerval. He whirls around and barks, "I am not mad!", to which Henry dryly says something along the lines of, "Yes, and the most convincing way to demonstrate that is to yell it at a total stranger." Victor doesn't get it.

This icon is, of course, most suitable for a post where I am saying something a bit crazy. Feel free to go for the easy all-of-them joke, with variations on the theme of make-it-your-default.

If you are a sports fan and claim not to have any superstitions, you lie so bad. This is one of those unfortunate icons that I really like, but rarely get to use.

And as usual, I talked too much. I think you expect that by now.

Oh, and also I demand an explanation as to how the hell you people can tell your icons apart with such random and obscure keywords. I have to keep mine simple or I have no idea which is which.

[identity profile] littlestclouds.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I reuse keywords, so it's pretty much burned into my brain now what keyword goes with what icon.

I use the option where I can view the thumbnails and click the icon I want.

This will also serve as my comment to play along as again. Even though Alex stole like half of my icons already.

I... feel like an uncultured dumbass, because I assumed that Branagh icon was him as Prof. Lockhart (who is, incidentally, mad). Oops!

[identity profile] remindmeofthe.livejournal.com 2007-10-16 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, that's okay. It does fit for either character, plus the long hair would be better on Lockhart than the short hair in the movie. And not a lot of people have seen Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (yes, that is the full title) because, well, it kinda sucks.

I adore Hamlet the play, but not so much Hamlet the prince.
We were just talking about this today in class! The play's amazing but nobody, absolutely nobody (except, hilariously, the broody emo kid in the corner), seems to actually like the character of Hamlet. People like Ophelia and Laertes a lot better.

He whirls around and barks, "I am not mad!", to which Henry dryly says something along the lines of, "Yes, and the most convincing way to demonstrate that is to yell it at a total stranger." Victor doesn't get it.
I think I need to see this. Particularly because, you know, Branagh and Frankenstein. Didn't even know that existed.
