Yeah, so that icon meme that's going around.

If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em.

List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, what significance does it have.

2004 World Series. Jason Varitek, overwhelmed by the enormity of what they've done, and Kevin Millar, sharing in the moment. I believe the tiny guy in the background with his arms in the air is Dave Roberts. I don't think I need to explain the significance of this one.

2005 ALDS. The famous eighteen-inning marathon between the Astros and the Braves. This is Chad Qualls and Luke Scott celebrating deliriously after Chris Burke's walkoff homerun. This game epitomizes the entire 2005 season for the Astros to me - starting slow, falling behind, looking hopeless, and then scratching and clawing and holding fiercely on until they came out on top. I still get gleeful chills when I remember this game. I could still write paragraphs about it and why it was so special. It was one of the most exciting games I have ever seen and I know I'll never see one quite like it.

This is a still from I ♥ Huckabees of Jude Law playing Brad Stand. Huckabees had a big impact on me back in the day, and Brad was my favorite character. Most of my icons are silly or sarcastic or happy, so I like this one for when I'm replying to a more serious post.

Literary geek alert! The original version of this quote comes from the titular character of "Bartleby, the Scrivener," a short story by Herman Melville. Back when the "missing icon" fad was making the rounds, Bartleby's quiet, simple, "I would prefer not to" struck me as perfect. I first read this story after I heard that the character in Kevin Smith's Dogma had been named after him, but I enjoyed it immensely on its own terms. The Crispin Glover movie adaptation a few years later didn't hurt too much, either.

Captain Jack! Does this need an explanation?

Man, I keep forgetting I have this icon. It needs to be aired out more often. This is a classic moment in the Tigers' 2006 AL Championship celebration. Kenny Rogers running around with champagne in hand, like all the other players. Up on the dugout, he encounters this very accommodating officer, asks his permission, and then joyfully douses him with champagne. This is one of the most memorable images from the Tigers' postseason.

Ha ha ha, okay. This is an edit I cobbled together from this Dork Tower comic. The icon, admittedly, makes no sense, but the comic is brilliant. Come on! Bad-ass Tony Bourdain the vampire slayer, slaying evil undead mediocre celebrity chefs! This only way this isn't funny is if, uh, you don't know anything about celebrity chefs. In which, trust me, it's really funny. And Anthony Bourdain is the fucking MAN.

Bonus! An icon I just made, inspired by the quote I shared in my last post.

And who better than the Doctor for showcasing the ungrammatical brilliance that is this quote?

...is the Kenny Rogers icon gankable? [livejournal.com profile] pitchcount needs non-Sox icons and I've not gotten around to making any.

Also, man, I LOVED that 18-inning game. It was on ESPN Classic the other day and I WAS AT WORK, RAR. (It was, of course, an abbreviated version, but. "You guys want to play one more game? Okay, let's play one more game -- RIGHT. NOW. How many pitchers do YOU have in the building? ...oh, shit, how many pitchers do WE have in the building? We already sent Petitte to Atlanta!")

Dude, I know. Clemens was quite literally their last option. He had to go until the game was done. I bet he loved every minute of it. I sure did.

Yep, all icons are gankable, since they're all ones I made. Credit if you like, but it's not necessary, because, ooooh, cropping a photo is HARD WORK.

All icons in this post, to clarify. Except for the one I used for the actual post. And the one above.
