"The Detroit Tigers are for real, huh?" - the Rangers announcers today.

I'm watching the archive of today's game, and Verlander looks just unfuckingbelievable. Two walks, two hits (given up back to back), seven strikeouts, and zero runs in seven innings. And the cold numbers don't even begin to cover it. Nasty curveball. An eight-pitch sixth. A called third strike on a hundred mile per hour fastball. Why the fuck was I nervous again? And this boy works quick, too, he barely has the ball back in his hand before he's firing it again. God, this is awesome. What a debut as a member of this rotation.

The Tigers won this game seven to nothing, with Shelty deciding that triples are fun too, and Granderson getting the only homer (hee, "the only homer." I love it). The Tigers are 5-0 right now. I am just speechless over this team. Of course, it's early, and of course, they won't keep this up all season (what team does?), but for now, I am enjoying the moment.

Still planning on the backlog post, probably on Monday. I just had to post about this one now.

Also, the Brewers are the only other undefeated team in baseball (still). I hope they lose first. Being the only undefeated team in the league for even a second would be awesome.

The Rangers announcers again: "Who are these people?"

Yeah, when I checked the box scores I was like "zomg wtf?" Pretty impressive so far, I must say. :) Do you think they're for really real or will they be more at .500 (or under) later in the season?

Meanwhile, I will LOL at the Yankees and White Sox (I mean, dropping two to KC? Really?)

Considering I decided weeks ago that the Tigers are winning the pennant (with tongue firmly in cheek, but still)? I think they're definitely showing us what they can do. Our rotation's got it going on (I grumble about Kenny Rogers, but unlike last year, his presence provides the younger pitchers with a veteran's perspective to learn from - Bonderman in particular has talked about this helping a lot), our offense is terrifying when it's on (Chris Shelton, omg, and I thought he was ridiculous last year), looks like Leyland's managing style is making a difference too - barring the kinds of injuries that wrecked us last year, I think we could make a real run here.

Also, I would like to thank the Royals for tenderizing the White Sox for Bondo prior to the Tigers' home opening Monday. *snerk*

By the way, the archive I watched showed this great little clip of Mientkie in today's game. He had the ball on the ground inside the diamond, sort of squatting on his knees, and he was trying to find a play. "I'll throw to sec - oh shit! Okay, first - oh, shit!" It was very funny.

Shelton is ridiculous, but it's a kind of ridiculous that hammers the unholy hell out of the ball.
