Hey, what's with all the day games today? I object. If I don't have to stay up too late to find out what happens, then dash off a few paragraphs with my brain going, "Hi, you moron, your alarm is going off in six hours, GO TO BED!", then I don't really know what to do.
I got home just in time to check the ESPN scoreboard to confirm start times, only to discover that the Yankees had just lost and the Astros had just won. Buh? So I think, cool, I'll get that out of the way before the Sox and Tigers games, and lose less sleeptime. First, I just gotta catch up on all my blogs and friends list . . . man, I'm hungry, I think I'll have dinner early . . . need something to read while I eat . . . oh, hey, what's this? Cool, I'll read this while I eat, then I get to that entry . . .
*readreadread* I really should get on that . . . *readreadread* Half an hour before the game, I gotta get going there . . . *readfreadread* Okay, I lose, the Red Sox are on . . . just one more . . . *readreadread* Aw, no more? Wait, it's the FIFTH INNING? Dammit!
So, to summarize, so I can actually watch some baseball today: The Devil Rays own the Yankees. I don't know how, I don't know why. It's like how the Rockies own the Tigers, and the Tigers in turn own the Orioles. I don't understand it, I can't explain it, it's just how it is. The Devil Rays own the Yankees.
And they really own Randy Johnson. A small fact lost in the kerfuffle of last night's eighth inning: The man gave up seven earned runs in three innings. Sean "Double A" Henn held his own against the Devil Rays better than RANDY JOHNSON. redsox, so apply a grain of salt - that he has not gotten a win against the Devil Rays since 1999. Craziness.
Today's 5-3 Yankees loss, from what I can tell from the recap, had several "more of the same" points. Again, the Yankees lose to a team they ought to be able to tenderize. Again, they get less than four runs and lose (they are now 0-25 on games with three or fewer runs scored). Again, the Princess made an error (this being his tenth - it seems like so many more). And again - this is seriously the third time that I can remember - Derek Jeter K's for the last out in a situation where he could have put his team in a position to win.
And it never gets old. =D
Okay, Astros. They won 6-2, making this their second sweep of the year (I think) - yay they own the Rockies! 'Course, so does everyone else. Except the Tigers. This also makes Clemens's third consecutive win, bring his record to a majestic 6-3. However, this is also the second gimme start he's had, as his last one was against the Royals, so I'm not getting too excited just yet. (Heh, if you had no idea who Roger Clemens was or what he's been doing this season, that would make him sound like such a crappy pitcher.) Although I will note that, since I got MLBTV, Clemens seems to get wins when I have the game on but am not paying too much attention, or when I just miss it altogether. The only two games I've really watched him are two of those losses. Damn. I guess I'm not going to be seeing too much of him as long as he's with the Astros.
A word on Morgan Ensberg: He has, as of this game, seventeen homeruns (three fewer than Alex "yeah, but none of mine actually made any difference" Rodriguez), with today being another three-run shot. I'm not so good with the stats, but I think that those other numbers look pretty good, too. He's the offensive star of the Astros right now (okay, yeah, not saying much, but go with me here), he's got solid numbers, he's good at third base, and no one outside of the NL Central has heard of him. What's up with that? More love for Morgan Ensberg, please!
I shall close with a random factoid, because now the Sox are in the eighth freaking inning and I'd like to see a few seconds of this game. As of today, Craig Biggio has been hit by 266 pitches in his Major League career. One more and he'll be tied for the modern Major League record. And we thought Kevin Millar got plunked a lot.
