Some observations on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
So was that actually a jillion times better than the first one or was I just in a position to appreciate it more? Because DAMN. I mean, it was still longer than it needed to be and there were definitely a few scenes that had me wondering if I had somehow managed to accidentally get high before I walked into the theater, but overall, I'd see it again.
Point the first: Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes was even better than I'd hoped, and believe me my hopes were already sky high. I've been squeeing internally (and sometimes externally) ever since that casting was announced. I srsly did not care about the rest of the movie, I just wanted to see Stephen as Mycroft. And he was amaaaaaaazing.
Oh MAN and I want more of Mary and Mycroft's ridiculous adventures. They can be the new Holmes and Watson! Mary out at all hours doing absurd things while John sits at home. I want this NOW. I love that Mary gets to be brilliant in her own right instead of just being the token wife. I just wish she'd had more screentime.
Point the second: Speaking of injustices done to the women in this movie, I would just like to inform you all that Irene is definitely not dead. As if such a bullshit maneuver could take out Irene Adler. She and Holmes are teaming up to take out Moriarty's organization as we speak. (Seriously, I'm not sure how much ambiguity the movie intended to have about her death because I instantly went into intense denial out of sheer self-defense, so that colored my entire perception of it. Denial: it's good for the soul. I am allowed to take a day off from the feminist rage now and then.)
Point the third: Wasn't that Reichenbach scene hot? Holy shit. Moriarty being all "lol no I can do that too" was amazing.Though Jim is totally not impressed with his double for overlooking the details. Withered plants! Pipe full of embers! HONESTLY NOW.
Point the fourth: Also, I like Holmes leaving hints for Watson that he's alive, because this Watson is definitely capable of maintaining that charade.
In conclusion: goddamn that was fun.

I almost went into paroxysms of glee when I saw Stephen Fry. And I died during the Mycroft/Mary scenes.
The whole train thing with Sherlock dressed as a woman had me wondering if I got a contact high from someone coming into the theater.
BUT I LOVED IT AND I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN.
Also, I kind of loved Moriarty.
