I get having problems with that scene, I always felt a little uncomfortable watching it, and didn't know why until I stumbled on this article (http://gg-feminism.livejournal.com/16241.html).
True, Chuck could have gotten some real growth out of facing what happened as well. Instead they didn't even pretend that his apologies were serious, with him having and agenda both times. (The first to prevent Lily from kicking him out, after kicking out a girl, because he had slept with her before. The second while he was stealing her stuff.) It's like they go out of their way to make him look as bad as possible without acknowledging they're doing it. I've stopped trying to understand it.
