Yeah, I thought that was absolutely the perfect touch... also the bit where John suspects that the Comedian has a disgusted look on his face under the mask. Because really, we've seen that he has the capacity at least to *care* for his children, but that doesn't mean he's good at it, or that he understands them. I even felt like his being there for John to beat up was more about himself than it was about John... like the Comedian needed the beating, and it just happened that John needed to be the one doing it, so it was a beneficial arrangement for both of them. I might be reading into it there, though. :)
