. . .

. . .

. . . fucking Yankees.

You know, I didn't feel the hate before. I do now.

I was fine last night. Aaron Boone hit that homer and I went, "Oh. Crap. Okay, bedtime." I felt pretty good actually, and I'll explain why in a minute.

Then I woke up this morning pissed off at the world. I can only attribute last night's calm to being in shock - I was so sure we had it. I guess the shock, along with the denial part, passed while I slept.

Today - which began auspiciously with my greeting the manager thusly when he unlocked the door: "Fucking Yankees" (happily, he works with enough Red Sox fans that he understood as well as a nonfan can) - featured commiseration with fellow fans, and then I felt better.

Other than the anger directed at That Fucking Team, I do feel good. Last night confirmed my devotion to the Red Sox. This won't be one of my passing fancies. I'll be there in the spring, and I can't wait. They are a good team. They played hard and they played well and they made the Yankees sweat. This was a close, close series and the result was not a question of who has more skill. It was simply a matter of who got there first. So what if the Yankees did? Had there been one small thing that was different, it would have been the Red Sox. They are a good team, I love them, I'm proud of them, and I'm proud to be a fan. I picked the right team.

So sit on that and spin.
