. . . okay, so next I'm going to write one of the actual challenges, but first I had to do this.

Boondock Saints/? I'll tell after the ficlet, and explain a theory I've held for a while, but I think this will be more fun if you don't know the second fandom right off the bat. You'll probably figure it out pretty quick if you're familiar with it, anyway.

There was a problem with the ID. Greenly wasn't really sure what it was. It checked out okay as an ID from Boston General, and okay, maybe he wasn't the brightest guy on the planet, but he knew a fake fucking ID when he saw one. This one wasn't fake.

Of course, Smecker wasn't claiming it was fake. No, because that would make fucking sense.

"It's a blank fucking piece of paper, Greenly, are you suddenly blind now? This is not beyond you. It's not like you have to count to nine here. You just have to look at a piece of paper and see that it is a piece of fucking paper! The guy didn't even have the decency to try and draw his picture on it in crayon! Even for you, this is not hard!"

Greenly stared. He'd learned a long time ago to go with Smecker's instincts, even if they completely fucking contradicted what everyone else seemed to see, and it hadn't steered him wrong yet, but this really just took the fucking cake.

"It's, it's an ID, Smecker," he said, wishing like hell that he sounded more like a cop and less like a kid telling the principal he'd fucked up. "I don't know what you want me to say."

"I WANT YOU TO SAY YOU SEE THE GODDAMN PIECE OF PAPER!"

"Uh, excuse me, you know what, I'm just going to, uh . . ." The British guy with the ID, a Doctor John Smith, gestured vaguely away.

"Thanks for your help," the red-headed woman added, giving Greenly a quick, embarrassed smile. They turned and hurried away, and Greenly tried to prepare himself for spending the rest of the day with a royally pissed off Smecker.

Mystery fandom: Doctor Who. See, I've thought for years that Smecker is psychic. Not strongly so, but enough so that he picks up impressions of recent events when he's in the place they occurred. He has no idea - he chalks it up to logic and intuition - but you'll notice he does tend to know things that can't quite be explained by the evidence at the scene. When he's really absorbed in something, he can get overwhelmed by what he's sensing; hence the freakout at the crime scene with Il Duce. I've always wanted to do fic with this, and once upon a time I actually started an eventual crossover with Angel, but that didn't pan out. DW works too, though, since it's established in canon that psychic paper doesn't work on people with strong enough psychic ability. *g*
