Gossip Girl rant/discussion. Because I got hold of the episode early.
NICE PARENTING, Eleanor Waldorf, you unbelieveable bitch. Like it's not enough that you were selfish enough to call your estranged (and soon to be ex-, and I can't think of anyone more deserving of divorce papers on the holidays) husband and claim that Blair, who is in ecstasy over the idea of sharing the Thanksgiving ritual with her father, is too angry to see him. You then sneered at your daughter for being shattered and longing for her dad's traditional pumpkin pie and forced her to choose a dessert - an entire dessert - when she told you she wasn't hungry. Did you perhaps forget that Blair is a recovering bulimic?? Did you WANT her to take that apple pie, binge on every last crumb, and then throw it back up? Would it surprise you in particular that Blair, frightened by her relapse, called the friend she had had a vicious argument with for support rather than turning to you? Not that you'll ever know. Blair may have forgiven you after you told her about the divorce papers and your dread of signing them, but she knows that she can't count on you. You have made that abundantly clear, you hideous, manipulative, lying, abusive cow.
Thank god Serena is a good enough friend to instantly forget her anger and abandon her Thanksgiving to go to Blair and comfort her. And I applaud the show for making a point of having Blair know without prompting that she needed to make an appointment with her therapist. I'm mad enough that Eleanor all but openly encouraging a relapse wasn't addressed without also seeing the show take said relapse lightly into the bargain.
Overall, though, fabulous episode, as usual. The Rufus/Lily story gets more interesting and heartbreaking every week. Oh, Rufus. Letting Alison force you into choosing her and kicking Lily out of your life is going to come back and bite you hard, but at the same time, what else could you do? But the shots of Lily cracking her kids up with stories of her life as a groupie were great. I know that the Humphrey family football game and Blair and Eleanor being cozy over a late dinner were supposed to be all warm and cozy, but they left me kinda cold. Lily laughing with her children after having her heart broken, though, that made me smile. Lily is way more awesome than she seemed at first.
Oh, show. You are supposed to be fluffy nonsense. Why are you made of win? (Heh. That totally makes no sense to people who didn't read under the cut. Watch the show! It rules! I promise!)
