Whoa. One book comes out and I suddenly have three days' worth of baseball logging to catch up on. Some would just let it go, ride with the flow, pick up with tonight and go from there. Some are not as compulsive dedicated as I.
So. Briefly, the past three days of baseball for my teams, in, oh, alphabetical order. Cut tagged because, you know, writing about nine games does not make for a short post, no matter how brief I am.
Astros
Friday: Thirteen innings, y'all. Damn. Isringhausen blew the save to Mike Lamb in the ninth to tie to game at two. Then a million years of nothing (okay, that's just how I would have felt if I'd watched it), then Lamb singled in a run in the thirteenth. Sadly, it was an away game, and sadly, Pujols can hit, and sadly, Pujols can hit two-run homers. Blech. So, the stupid Cardinals won it 4-3.
Saturday: Another loss, 4-2. Nothing so dramatic. Oswalt was mostly studly except for the one four-run inning, and the Astros' two runs came in the first off (yes) a two run homer from my Houston boyfriend Morgan Ensberg. Frustrating that the Astros couldn't get it done for Oswalt when the offense has been so much better lately - that's a game I'd have expected in May, not July.
Today: Oh, look, a sweep. Once again, Clemens has one bad inning, and once again, the offense does not pick him up. However, I can't really blame them here - it looks like Chris Carpenter threw a terrific game (a three-hitter, at that), so it's not like it's another case of the offense putting on their sucking hats just for Roger. Final score: 3-0.
Next up: the Pirates. Hopefully we can get back up to .500 with this series.
Red Sox:
Friday: What, we beat the Yankees 17-1 again? Yawn. HA just kidding, but the reason I didn't try to squeeze in a post before I left for Waldenbooks was that I just didn't have much to say, and I notice that no one else got too wordy about it, either. Dominance from Boomer, showing Yankee Bob where he can shove his six-game suspension. A grand slam from Papi. A kickass three-run inside-the-park standing-up homerun from Trotter. Embarrassing pitching from the Yankees. All joy and beauty and shiny, but not galvanizing in terms of writing like a narrow win or painful loss. However, it still bears repeating, so: the final score was 17-1. Again.
Saturday: So much for setting a tone. Randy Johnson did that thing where he gave up multiple homeruns, but the Yankees had a six run third inning because Matt Clement imploded, and our offense couldn't quite catch up. On the plus side, Curt Schilling had a perfect ninth, so that was reassuring. Final score: 7-4.
Today: Al Leiter apparently did not get the memo about how much he was supposed to suck. Then the ninth inning gave me a heart attack. I find it interesting that YESPN did not seem to have a good, clear, close shot of Cora's out, instead showing every other damn angle while Morgan and Miller went on about how big A-Rod's dick is or something. What fine, unbiased programming. The general consensus on my friendslist, however, seems to be that Cora was safe. I hate umpires. So, in spite of coming damn close in the ninth, the Red Sox lost 5-3.
Next up: Tampa Bay. And we are still in first by half a game. And I hate the Devil Rays. And I hope McClelland is there and gets hit by a wild pitch. Or any pitch. Or any object. Go Red Sox! And go Rangers! Kick the Yanks in the nads for us!
Tigers
Friday: Oh my god! Nate Robertson threw more than one pitch! And he threw a great game! And he got a win! IT'S AMAZING. That's awesome after the kind of crap he's gotten lately. Jesus, and that was his first home win all year. Pudge got a two run homer, then later scored on an error, and then Dmitri capped it off with a solo homer. Oh, yeah, and Troy Percival is on the DL again, so THE FARNS got his first save as a closer in this game (and his second of the year). Final score: 4-1.
Saturday: Jason Johnson had a very nice game and pitched eight innings. THE FARNS got another save, with THREE K's in a row. I had trouble with MLBTV for most of this game, but it kindly smoothed out just in time for me to see THE FARNS work his studly magic. Could I be any more in love with the guy at this point? Anyway, on the offensive side, Brandon Inge had a ridiculous night, getting three RBI and scoring a run himself. Nook also scored after a single from Inge, but that was on an error. Of which the Royals had four. Final score: 5-3.
Today: Oh, wait, yes. Yes, I could be more in love with THE FARNS. And I'll be even MORE more in love after I watch the brawl tomorrow (why does MLBTV have to wait so long to make archives available, anyway?). I still can't believe I missed this damn game. Oh well, at least this way I can be guaranteed that the feed won't start acting up at exactly the wrong moment. I'm sure I will have much to say about the brawl tomorrow. The actual game was not so hot, being a 5-0 loss and all, but I kind of don't care.
Next up: The White Sox. Sigh. Well, maybe the brawl will bring them together and make their game better and make the White Sox CRY.
Whew. That was fun. If it hadn't taken over an hour to write 'cos I'm such a baseball whore, I might consider doing it that way more often. Too bad I have so many teams.
